Dr. Susan Farner is an instructor in the Kinesiology and Community Health Department at the University of Illinois at the Urbana-Champaign campus. She has 28 years of experience as a medical technologist with an emphasis in microbiology. Her management experience includes 20 years as the manager of a private medical laboratory and four years supervising the clinical laboratory at the College of Veterinary Medicine at the University of Illinois. She is on the Board and the Policy and Legislative Committee for the Illinois Rural Health Association. She has worked with the University of Illinois College of Medicine at Rockford in the Rural Medicine area. Dr. Farner has completed a grant through the Rural Professions Center at the medical school examining access to health care and health literacy in underserved rural populations in Illinois. Susan Farner has also received a grant from the Center for Professional Responsibility in Business and Society. This grant provided resources to update CHLH 456 Health Care Organization to better prepare future health care providers to function in the health care field. Dr. Farner received the Campus Award for Excellence in Undergraduate Teaching in 2006.
