The Catherine C. and Bruce A. Bastian Scholarship

The Catherine C. and Bruce A. Bastian Scholarship fund was established to increase students' awareness of and involvement in international activities. The study abroad scholarship funds are designated in part to support International and Global Studies majors who study abroad on a University of Illinois-sponsored or affiliated program to fulfill the requirement for their major. Scholarships of $1,000 are available for fall or spring semesters. Funds are credited to the student's University of Illinois account in the term that their required study abroad occurs.

For Study Abroad in spring 2012 term: October 17, 2011
For Study Abroad in fall 2012 term or academic year 2012-2013: March 16, 2012

The recipients are all participating in study abroad programs in which they will take courses with local students or live with local families/students, and thus maximize their target language and culture learning opportunities. The recipients have also demonstrated a strong commitment to international activities on campus. Please join us in congratulating these International and Global Studies majors.

Thulin Field Work Experience Scholarship

Marjorie Hall Thulin Endowment for International Study
The LAS Global Studies Thulin Scholarship Fund supports the pursuit of academically-grounded field work experiences abroad, including internships, research, and service learning opportunities, among International/Global Studies students. The scholarship is intended to support a student who participates in a field experience as part of a study abroad program or a student who pursues another type of unpaid field work experience abroad for which the student has arranged academic credit. Students participating in study abroad programs that include internship or field work components, such as Minnesota Studies in Development (MSID) and Internships in Francophone Europe (IFE), are encouraged to apply. The field work experience must be a minimum of six weeks. Scholarhips of $1,000 - $2,000 are available for fall, spring, or summer term. Funds are credited to the student's University of Illnois account in the term of their field work experience.

Institute for International Public Policy Fellowship
Institute for International Public Policy Student Fellowship Program The UNCF Special Programs Corporation's Institute for International Public Policy (IIPP) Fellowship Program is now entering its 17th year. The Institute seeks to enhance U.S. national security and global competitiveness by promoting excellence, international service, and awareness among a representative cross-section of the American citizenry. IIPP also seeks to broaden access to international education and training opportunities for underrepresented minority college students.

Critical Language Scholarship Program
The United States Department of State and the Council of American Overseas Research Centers (CAORC) provide scholarships for intensive overseas study in the critical need foreign languages of Arabic, Bangla/Bengali, Chinese, Hindi, Korean, Persian, Punjabi, Russian, Turkish, and Urdu.

Foreign Language and Area Studies Fellowships
FLAS Fellowships support graduate and undergraduate study in modern foreign languages in combination with area studies, international studies, or international or area aspects of professional studies. The following languages, classified by Center, are approved by the U.S. Department of Education for FLAS fellowships at Illinois.

National Security Education Program (NSEP) Scholarships
The National Security Education Program (NSEP) provides study abroad scholarships of $6,000-$20,000 for a full academic year, $4,000-$10,000 for a semester, or $2,500-$8,000 for a summer session of at least 6 weeks. Scholarships may be used for U.S. citizens to study in Asia, Africa, Central & Eastern Europe, Latin America, or the Middle East on almost any study abroad program.

LUCE Scholarship
Deadline: October 28th for all materials (including official transcripts) The scholarship provides an internship and all-expenses paid year in East or Southeast Asia. Asia studies majors/minors or anyone who has been to Asia for more than 4 weeks are not eligible. Further, no prior Asian language study is required. The goal of the program is to provide an Asian experience for those who will be future leaders in their field and communities, but have yet to come in much contact with Asian affairs.
