Employment Resources

Regardless of your career plans, you will eventually need an entry-level job. The College of Liberal Arts and Sciences, as well as other campus units, provide a breadth of resources for job-seekers. Each year, for instance, the College of LAS holds a Career Information Night, which allows students to speak with UIUC graduates about their career paths. The Career Center not only provides workshops and career fairs, but it also allows students to stop by to do their own job research or to schedule an appointment with a career advisor.

Librarians at the Business and Economics Library can help you use the Corporate Affiliations Database. This database searches listings and contact information of foreign companies with offices in the United States, and it allows for sorting by country of origin. You should also get to know campus organizations relevant to your country or professional interest. Often these organizations will have information related to employment in their respective countries or with U.S. organizations looking for particular language skills.

In searching for entry-level jobs, remember that the connections and skills you develop during your undergraduate years can be particularly helpful. You should therefore try to develop these connections and skills through your internships, part-time work, volunteering and related experiences. Please read the disclaimer regarding the links below.

The following is a very brief list of employers and employment resources. Most jobs require at least an undergraduate degree as well as specific skills and areas of specialization. Some employers (particularly intergovernmental organizations) require a Master’s degree for the majority of their positions. Consequently, this list should serve not only as a means to find employment, but also as information on the hiring criteria of certain employers and employment sectors.
