Global Studies Major

Foundations

Overview

All majors are required to take a set of foundation courses which introduce a variety of global issues and the skills necessary to analyze these issues from multiple disciplinary perspectives. The specific goals of the foundations requirement are to:

  • establish a basic understanding of the contemporary international system and how it is analyzed;
  • provide an introduction to the major world regions and their current environmental, political, economic and social conditions;
  • initiate development of foundational knowledge sets and skills expected of Global Studies graduates, including critical analyses of world events and global processes, group research, and cross-cultural understanding.

Foundations Courses

  1. GLBL 100 (3 hrs) Introduction to Global Studies
  2. Global Studies Seminars (3-4 hrs)
    (3) GLBL 296 Global Studies Seminars (3 hrs)
    OR
    (1) GLBL 298 Global Studies Seminar Abroad AND (1) GLBL 296 Global Studies Seminar  (4 hrs)
  3. Global Studies Core Requirement (12 hrs)

Global Studies Core

Four courses must be selected from the approved course list in consultation with the Global Studies advisor; they must include no more than one course each from the following departments: Anthropology, Economics, Geography, History, Political Science, and Sociology.
